B+ Walk -
Title Required with Sue Banister
9½ miles / 15.3km with 2001ft / 610m Total Ascent

I think todays B+ walk is fairly strenuous but we have plenty of time so can take our time.

We will start in Threlkeld and head east up past the Blencathra Centre then north on a bridleway through the stunning Glenderaterra valley to join the Cumbria Way at Guide Stone.
We continue north for about ¾ of a mile then head south west to climb up and along Burnt Horse ridge. The views all along here are really beautiful.

It's then the climb up Lonscale Fell which is steep and is the high point of the walk at 2345ft  (715m).
We will also visit Lonscale Pike, a short walk from the summit, which despite being not quite as high gives us a much better view point.
We then start the fairly long descent off the fell to rejoin the Cumbria Way which skirts Latrigg and takes us down into Keswick.

B Walk -
Derwent Circular with Stuart Arnold
 9½miles / 15.2km with 200ft / 61m very gradual ascent.

We start today's walk from the Centre of Keswick, making our way to the the river Greta bridge opposite the old pencil museum. Taking the river path we make our way across fields to the small village of Portinscale. Following the road past the HF hostel at Derwent Bank we enter Fawe Park at the side of Unlock Pike to join the Cumbria Way. Emerging from the woods we ascend to the lower Catbells path and follow it down the length of Derwent Water.

The views from the path are magnificent with the Skiddaw range to our rear, Castlerigg to the left, the summit of Catbells to our right and the Borrowdale Valley up front.

At the end of the lake we drop off the path and follow the lake round to the Lodore Falls Hotel. Making our way back to Keswick we walk along the lake side passing Barrow, Calfclose and Strandshag Bay to join the road at the Headlands and back into Keswick.

C Walk -
Crosthwaite to Keswick with Barbara Gilbert & Jan Atkins
 4½ to 5½miles / 7.2 to 8.9km with ft / m Total Ascent

The walk commences from Crosthwaite car park near Fitz Park towards the hamlet of Applethwaite with views of Skiddaw, Grisedale Pike, Causey Pike and Catbells via paths, fields and bridges.

Further on we reach Millbeck where there is an 18th century turreted carding mill (Millbeck Towers) and Underskiddaw Village Hall. After leaving Millbeck, with views of Derwentwater and the surrounding fells we make our way back to Applethwaite passing the village stocks towards Thrushwood which will eventually take us over a footbridge up to the A66 before retracing our steps back to the car park.

We may make a slight detour to take in Portinscale before returning back to Keswick. This will depend how we get on.

12/05/2024 Coach Walk - Conwy (North Wales)

8:30 start with 16:30 return

A Walk - Tal-y-Fan with Graham Hogg
12½ miles / 20km with 2,650ft / 800m Total Ascent

From Conwy, we head out of town to join the Cambrian Way footpath and enjoy the splendid vistas afforded from the Mynydd y Dref over to Llandudno, Y Gogarth and Ynys MĂ´n.

Upon reaching the disused slate quarry, this marks the line for our steep ascent onto the long, rocky and undulating Tal-y-Fan ridge before reaching the summit itself at 610m. On a clear day, the views are extensive in all directions and we could see out to Holyhead Mountain or even the Isle of Man, if lucky.

To avoid the rocky return traverse of the ridge we´ll descend north for a short way to pick up a lower contour path that provides easier ground.

At Tyddyn- grasod we´ll re-join the Cambrian Way for a short stretch before heading towards Cogwrn and Crows Nest Hall. From here, we follow paths to Mount Pleasant and join the Sychnant Pass Road for the last section of the walk back into Conwy. Enjoy!

B+ Walk - Coast and Estuary with Val Walmsley
10 miles / 16km with 830ft / 253 Total Ascent.

Join North West Coastal Path at Rhos-on-Sea & follow round Penrhyn Bay to climb Little Orme (short
ascent). Descend thro ́woods to Llandudno sea front & pick up path passing Bodafon Hall Farm. Skirt round Coed Gaer & Coed y Gell to Bryniau. Move on by Maesdu Golf Course to reach Coast path at Deganwy & follow round Conwy estuary & cross bridge to arrive at Conway destination.

B Walk - Conwy Mountain with Stuart Arnold
8 miles / 12.9km with 1300ft / 396m Total Ascent

As we leave Conwy heading north watch out for arrows or boiling oil from the castle. Following the river we pass the smallest house in Wales and heading west we cross the A547 and join the North Wales path over the Conwy mountains.

After a gradual ascent we can look back and see Conwy Castle in the distance and looking north we should have magnificent views of Conwy Bay. As we follow the ridge we pass the Iron Age hill fort of Castell Carr Seion.

We then descend to the Sychnant Pass then on to Llechwedd and after crossing the Bry-Seir road we arrive back in Conwy.

C Walk - Henryd with Joe Brennand
5 miles / 8km with 500ft / 152m Total Ascent.

Starting from the castle we head south through woodlands, climbing we head to Bryn Seiri road and then on to Bryn Gwylan. Skirting round the caravan park we then head towards the mast before going back to conwy for tea and cake.

There are a few stiles on route, but trust me the climb is worth it when you see the views.
