Worden Park with Barry Hayhurst
2 to 3 miles with Little Climbing
Each Mid-Week Stroller walk has a destination providing a venue for drinks / snacks / meals etc and starts at 10:30am.
Meet at Tesco main car park (Sat Nav: PR25 2FN), then afterwards at The Old Leyland Gates Pub, Golden Hill Lane (Sat Nav: PR25 3PG).
Due to the Council discouraging folk from spending too much time on the Park (90mins then charges apply by a jobs worth parking attendant), in case we enjoy the surroundings or even make use of the facilities, we shall meet on Tesco car park (zone 4, near the click and collect kiosk) on the concourse opposite Leyland Cross (outside the Vets). Toilets available in Tesco free...OR on the park 20p.
From the car park we make our way along Worden Lane to the North Lodge entrance into Worden Park, making our way towards Shaw Wood (depending on the weather this route may change), to Shaw Brook and the “FOLLY”. We follow the course of the Brook, through the woods to the west entrance. From here we wander through the arboretum to the “maze” which anyone can venture into if you so wish. After your little “adventure” we make our way to the parks formal and herbaceous gardens... not a great deal of colour at this time of year I´m afraid... from here we can see the old Ice house, also the last of snowdrops and the emerging daffodils in the woods. From here we make our way pass what remains of Worden Hall to the Craft Centre (shops) and the Walled Garden (plants/shrubs for sale) which is now run the Brothers of Charity. We now make our way back to the North Lodge, passing the model railway (sorry no rides today.. only at weekends).
For those wishing a brew, pint, sandwich or lunch we make our way to The Eagle and Child public house.
