B Walk - Chipping with Alan Gilbert
8 miles (12.9km) with Moderate Climbing
Meet at Chipping pay and display car park (Sat Nav: PR3 2QH), ready for the usual start time of 10.30am.
The walk passes the Old Berry´s chair works leaving the road near a mill pond towards Windy Hill, then northwards crossing pasture to the Burnslack road. We will be negotiating some stepping stones and following the stream towards Lickhurst farm and then Knott Hill and it´s restored lime kiln, stopping for lunch.
After lunch we proceed to Legram Smithy, then Greenland farm to reach the Gibbon Bridge Hotel, which will take us back to Chipping.
Leagram Hall was once an extensive deer park enclosing a boundary known as ‘the pale’ which was a ditch 8 feet wide and 4 feet deep surmounted by a wooden palasade and planted with hawthorn. This is a very attractive and varied walk from the village centre.
