22/11/2026 Sunday Car - Rufford

November
Start: 10:30am

C Walk - Canal towpaths, woodland trails and field tracks with Jean Gabbatt
6 miles (9.5 km) across flat terrain (no stiles)

Meet at St Mary the Virgin CE Church, Rufford (L40 1TA) ready to start at 10.30am.
(NB Parking is available on Church Rd but, if congested, an alternative option is The Paddock (L40 1UL) behind The Hesketh Arms.)

We first walk south along the canal to a swing bridge and the A59. We cross and then leave the road following a succession of tracks to the cricket ground and Mere Sands Wood. By skirting and then traversing the reserve we reach the Visitor Centre for our lunch stop. In the early afternoon we exit the woods and follow a route across open fields to the A59 where we walk to Sparks Bridge and re-join the canal. The towpath leads us back to Rufford church.

18/11/2026 Stroller - Brockholes

November
Start: 10:30am

Brockholes with Barry Hayhurst
2 to 3 miles with little climbing
Each Mid-Week Stroller walk has a destination providing a venue for drinks / snacks / meals etc.

Meeting for the usual time for a 10.30 start. Parking on Loverose Way, Samlesbury PR5 0UH.

The Stroll will take us around the perimeter of Brockholes nature reserve ( bear in mind some footpaths could be a bit muddy at this time of year ).  There are bird hides along the way for anyone wishing to participate in any ornithological pursuits.  On leaving the woodland areas, passing the adventure play areas, we arrive at the banks of the River Ribble following it down stream to where we started.  Hopefully we may encounter deer, wildfowl, and maybe a Gruffalo?

Just a note the car park on the nature reserve charges £6, think that's a bit expensive even to use their toilets.

Refreshment's will at the Anderton Arms, Longsands Lane,  Fulwood PR2 9PS.

The Beamers Trail forms part of the much longer Witton Weavers Way.
The walk takes us firstly by the boundary wall of Hoghton Tower, over the railway line and then down to Hoghton Bottoms where we join the Beamers Trail. Initially we will be walking by the River Darwen then through open fields to reach Pleasington Priory from here we drop down to Witton Country Park (a legacy of the Fielden family) for lunch and a toilet stop. We then continue up through the woods and skirt around Billinge Hill before arriving at the Wainwright Stone, we will stop here to take in the views. We then drop down through the fields to return to the river at Hoghton Bottoms then retracing our steps in part to return to the cars.
A lovely walk through hill and dale, fingers crossed for a nice day.

(This walk was originally scheduled for 10/09/2026)
